The tram line to the Nad Jazerom housing estate in Košice is undergoing extensive modernisation, opening a new era of comfortable, quiet and environmentally friendly travel for city residents. It reduces noise and vibrations, increases the comfort of everyday transport and actively contributes to a more harmonious, healthier and more pleasant urban environment. At the beginning of June 2026, BRENS EUROPE successfully completed the installation of the green surface at the Važecká terminal station, confirming that a modern tram line can be both functional and aesthetically attractive. In the coming period, the green tram track will be installed step by step on additional sections with a vegetated area of over 17,500 m2, transforming the surroundings of the line into a modern, welcoming and inspiring urban space and becoming a model for other urban projects.

Built-in water-retention absorbers in the vegetated surface ensure plants have a long-term supply of moisture and support the natural evaporation of rainwater directly at the point of impact. This effectively strengthens a healthier microclimate around the line and brings a tangible ecological benefit to the city. It is a patented solution for tram tracks with a surface made of sedum mats, combining modern technology with deep respect for nature and clearly pointing the way towards a more sustainable future for urban transport. The vegetated surface is separated from the running rails by removable vulcanised rubber STRAILastic profiles, specially designed and manufactured for the type of rails used. The grooved rails are therefore not in contact with the moist environment of the vegetated cover, and STRAILastic reliably and permanently protects the rail fastenings from increased corrosion, thereby extending the service life of the entire line and reducing maintenance costs. The BRENS sandwich absorbers use recycled synthetic textiles processed on unique production lines by the leading Czech technology company RETEX, thus taking sustainable solutions in transport infrastructure to a new, inspiring level.
